On The Front Lines Of The Legal Battle

On Behalf of O’Malley Tunstall PLLC | Aug 23, 2020 | Truck Accidents

The logging industry provides a valuable service in North Carolina. However, when they are involved in or cause motor vehicle accidents, the results can be deadly. The people who work with and drive logging trucks must pay special attention to strict safety measures. And, the companies that hire them must be confident that the truckers are trained to address the extra hazards that these huge trucks create.

The reputation of logging trucks isn’t great. In fact, there are only five companies that will write insurance policies to cover these rigs. Because they’re so dangerous, having a safety plan in place is critical before a driver puts the rig into motion.

Proper loading

The loading and unloading of these trucks are two times when injuries and even fatalities can occur. Special care must be taken so workers and others aren’t hurt or killed.

People who are loading the trucks should make sure that the load is balanced and secure to help prevent wrecks while the truck is on the road. Loads that aren’t balanced can cause the entire tractor-trailer to become unstable. It is very hard to keep control of a moving, unstable truck. Even a little bit of swaying can lead to an accident

A load that isn’t properly secured could lead to a log rolling off or sliding off the trailer. A loose log can strike another vehicle or come through the truck’s cab, injuring the log truck driver.

Safe driving

When the logging trailer is fully loaded, the trucker must ensure they are taking the load into account. A loaded truck is very heavy and requires slowing down more than normal around curves and when stopping. Wet roads can also affect driving safety.

If you are injured in an accident with a logging truck, your physical recovery can be long and difficult. Make certain you are able to hold an at-fault driver or company responsible for your financial losses. This may also help others avoid the same fate.
