How do attorneys help car crash victims?

You know that victims of automobile crashes often turn to personal injury lawyers for help. But why do they? Few people give much thought to personal injury lawyers until they get hurt. So, what do these lawyers do for people that the people can’t do for themselves?

The answer is actually quite simple: They help injury victims fight back against the insurance companies. The insurance companies are happy to receive your monthly payments. They are much less excited to write out checks. They prefer to look for ways to shift blame, minimize injuries and shrink the amounts they owe. This is where attorneys can help you

Personal injury attorneys help victims get the money they deserve

The Insurance Research Council published studies in both 1999 and 2014 that showed just how effective personal injury lawyers could be. These studies, created by members of the insurance industry, found that injury victims who worked with attorneys earned an average of three times as much as victims who didn’t.

Let that sink in: Car crash victims collect an average of three times more money when they hire lawyers.

Think about it. What does that say about the insurance companies’ initial settlement offers? It says exactly what you suspect it does. It says that insurance companies think most people won’t realize how much their cases are really worth. Most victims won’t question the offers they get. In fact, many think the first offer is fair. The insurance companies are counting on that, so they don’t have to pay out as much money. However, those offers are often not fair. Attorneys push the insurance companies to pay more by:

  • Measuring the real cost of an injury, including future expenses
  • Investigating the accident to figure out who is at fault
  • Helping victims get the right medical treatment
  • Preparing cases for trial in case the insurance company doesn’t pay out what they are supposed to

Personal injury attorneys aren’t all the same. And, the “three times as much” figure is just an average. Don’t trust the insurance company for your case. Getting professional help is an important step along your road to recovery.
