Be mindful of mistakes after an auto accident

On Behalf of O’Malley Tunstall PLLC | Apr 6, 2018 | Firm News

Accidents happen every day and can have a serious impact on those involved. In cases where the responsible party was negligent, it may be possible to gain compensation through a personal injury claim.

The actions people do or do not take can damage even a strong claim. Therefore, claimants should be mindful of and avoid a few common mistakes that people make after an auto accident.

Too much talking

Sometimes, even a polite “I’m sorry” can be damaging to a claim. It is important that people be mindful of what they say and try to keep any conversation to a minimum. Also, when speaking with insurance providers, it is best to keep answers targeted to the questions at hand and try to be as concise as possible.

Being unorganized

Organization and maintaining all paperwork may be critical to the case. Documentation, such as accident reports and medical bills, are key pieces of evidence in a personal injury claim. Not only does the evidence help to validate claims, but it also aids in determining fair award amounts. For this reason, it is best to keep all documentation in a safe place and all together. For those who do not do well with paper documents, it may be beneficial to scan any paperwork or documentation and save it on a computer or in the cloud.

Improper medical treatment

Receiving proper medical treatment is necessary for the person’s being as a whole. Beyond visible infractions, there may be internal issues that outside parties may not be aware of. A physician can check for any internal issues and address them, along with the external cuts and bruises. Also, consistent medical records help to validate the severity of the injury, which may aid in securing a larger amount for damages.

These are a few of the main mistakes to avoid after an auto accident. By keeping these things in mind and making intentional choices, claimants can develop and argue strong personal injury cases.
